Fishing Courses

Whilst visiting Tomdoun why not take advantage of its wonderful fishing opportunities?TroutThe extent of our waters seems a little daunting or you’re flying in with limited baggage, why not use the services of our ghillie, Peter Thomas who can supply you with all the tackle you require and a wealth of local knowledge? If you’re a novice, spend a few hours with Peter learning to fly fish so you can get the most from your fishing experience with us at Tomdoun Hotel. Peter can offer our guests a three day special beginner’s course;

Day 1:

An introduction to fly fishing on our hill lochs, including the use of various rods, reels and lines with in depth explanations of the various methods and flies used for this type of fishing. Followed by a chance to fish these small lochs for hard fighting brown trout.

Day 2:

Your tuition continues on our river, again being shown the various methods and tackle used to fish in this demanding environment with its fast rapids and smooth glides, for larger trout and salmon.

Day 3:

On your last day Peter will take you on one of our large lochs to learn the techniques needed to catch trout from a drifting boat, fishing traditional loch style.During these three days you will have the chance to try various quality fly fishing outfits, mostly Hardy’s, so you can decide which best suits you and your chosen fly fishing discipline, whether it be Scottish waters or your local reservoir or river. Peter will supply you with all the tackle you need - just bring waterproofs, in case you encounter one of our less sunny days.The charge for the three days is £300. For a further £50.00 you can bring a friend or partner to enjoy this experience with you.We’re fortunate to have Peter’s vast knowledge and experience, over twelve years, of fishing these waters and the methods required. He’s very happy to tailor a fishing package to suit your requirements.
